Prof. James S. Harrop, M.D., FACS

Dr. James S. Harrop is a Professor of Neurological Surgery at Thomas Jefferson University and Chief of the Division of Spine and Peripheral Nerve Surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. Internationally recognized as a leading expert in spinal cord injury, spinal trauma and complex spine surgery, Dr. Harrop has dedicated his career to advancing the treatment and recovery of patients with neurological injuries and disorders.

Dr. Harrop’s clinical and research expertise spans spinal cord injury, neurotrauma, peripheral nerve surgery, minimally invasive spine surgery and translational regenerative medicine.

He directs major clinical research initiatives focused on neural regeneration, neurorecovery and improving functional outcomes following traumatic spinal cord injury.

Throughout his career, Dr. Harrop has authored more than 750 peer reviewed publications, book chapters and scientific presentations, making him one of the most widely published experts in the field of spinal surgery and SCI research. His work has contributed significantly to the advancement of surgical techniques, neuroprotective strategies and emerging regenerative approaches for spinal cord repair.
